JEFFREY SCHMELKIN is a musical theatre writer, composer, and music director based in New York City. He has performed at, and/or his work has been presented at many New York venues including 54 Below, The Midtown International Theatre Festival, The Red Pavilion, Broadway Comedy Club, The Slipper Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Green Room 42, and The Triad Theater.
Noteworthy works include Untitled Time: A New Musical, What's Wrong With The World?, and The Parts I Keep Inside. He has also music directed collegiate and high school productions and musical revues in and around the greater New York City area. Jeffrey earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Theory and Composition from Hofstra University, receiving the Peggy Deutsch Endowed Memorial Scholarship for Music Composition. By day, after earning his Master's in Performing Arts Administration at New York University, Jeffrey works to create a more inclusive performing arts industry for all. In early 2022, Jeffrey founded JES Theatrical, LLC, a theatre company that produces his original works in New York City and beyond. He also created MTforMT, an online resource for theatre performers to learn the music theory that is relevant to the rehearsal room. He is a proud member of ASCAP and The Aurelians Art Collective.
